Barkindji Woman
(She/Her)

I am a proud Barkindji Woman, from Wilcannia NSW, I have lived in Canberra, on Ngunnawal Country, for almost 50 years. I have enjoyed my life in Canberra; it’s been a beautiful place to raise my family. I have two sons, two wonderful daughters in law, 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. I am very family orientated and like to spend most of my time around my family sharing my cultural knowledge.

Throughout my career, I have worked in various positions in the ACT Government as a public servant and the community sector as a qualified youth work, drug and alcohol worker, and as a qualified counsellor. At the end of 2024, I decided to leave my full-time job so that I could join my son’s business The Connected Purpose, as a counsellor. I am now slowly transitioning into retirement.

Over the years, I have been very involved in the community as a kinship carer for many young people in the ACT, I was also a longstanding member and Chairperson of the ACT NAIDOC Committee. I was a member of the ACT Shadows Basketball club committee and as a player, I would also volunteer in the canteen and at other events, to support the Shadows Basketball Club with fundraising, so we had the opportunity to take our young people away for basketball tournaments in surrounding areas. I’m also very proud to continue to be part of the ACT Nannies Group.

I have a deep passion for counselling and supporting the many people in my community over the years. I have loved building the connections with my community through counselling. I have always felt so privileged to be trusted to hear and hold their stories, and I will forever hold them close to my heart.
