16 Days of ACTIVEism Walk Against Gender Based Violence - With Djirra
During 2025’s 16 Days of ACTIVEism® Against Gender-Based Violence, Sisters in Spirit was proud to stand alongside Djirra and our community for the annual ACTIVEism Walk in Canberra.
More than 100 people gathered on Ngunnawal Country, walking and talking together around the shores of Lake Burley Griffin to send a clear and unified message: violence against Aboriginal women must end. The walk brought together community members, government representatives, family violence sector workers and politicians from across the political spectrum, joining SISAC and Djirra in our pledge to get ACTIVE in our ACTIVEism®.
Sisters in Spirit was honoured to partner with Djirra for this important moment of collective action to amplify Aboriginal women’s voices and assert our right to self-determined solutions to end violence in our communities. While the 2025 16 Days of ACTIVEism® has now ended, the work does not stop.
As Antoinette Braybrook AM, CEO of Djirra, reminded us: “Violence against Aboriginal women is at epidemic levels. Every year, more women’s lives are taken, more of our children removed and more families torn apart. It’s time for politicians to hear us and invest in our self-determined solutions.”
Sisters in Spirit stands with Djirra and Aboriginal women everywhere in continuing to call for an end to violence and for responses that are community-led, culturally grounded and rooted in justice.
